Happy New Year to all readers! 2020 has been a tough year for many, and now in this new year; we all hope that 2021 will treat us better. To begin the new year; let's start with something historic and interesting. The history and stories of the hospitals within our hospital network. Let's get to it.
Ever wondered how hospitals came to be, or how the hospital building came up, when it was built and who were the people behind it? I definitely sometimes do. And that's why we're here, to look into the history and stories of the hospitals that Go Insurance are partnered up with!
Starting with one of the best hospitals in Thailand; Samitivej Hospital. The main Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital located on Sukhumvit Soi 49, is one of the best hospitals and is recognised as one of the leading private hospitals in South East Asia.
With great reputation and name, let's explore their beginnings.
The Beginning of Samitivej
Samitievj has come a long way since it's inception. Now part of the group; Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS), which are a leading group of private hospitals that are dedicated towards serving both Thailand and the ASEAN regions. But before we get into all of that, let's start at the beginning.
Samitivej was founded in June 1979 by the late Khun Bancha Lamsam of Kasikorn Bank and M.R. Bajarisan Jumbala, M.D.
Together, they had a vision. To bring together the best doctors and nurses together along with the best and most advanced medical and healthcare technology in order to provide the absolute best healthcare to their loved ones and visiting patients. But that wasn't all.
Khun Bancha Lamsam and Doctor Bajarisan Jumbala both also envisioned a certain level of service that they wanted to provide to their patients and guests. As they both understood that mental and emotional health was just as important as physical heallth. The hospital's service and hospitably was a to priority in their vision. With all of that combined; the first Samitivej hospital was constructed and their vision born back in June of 1979.
Achievements of Samitivej
It's no secret that Samitivej has a long history of excellent service and healthcare. And the awards and achievements that they have garnered through out their many years definitely show it, and in this section of this article; we will get into those awards and achievements!
In 1999, Samitivej became the very first hospital within Thailand to be awarded the prestigious recognition as a Mother-and-Baby Friendly Hospital by both the WHO and UNICEF. An amazing feat to be sure.
But their achievements and awards don't just stop there. Over the years; Samitivej has garnered numerous awards and accreditation from the Thai Hospital Accreditation Board as well as the JCI accreditation, A United States organistion whom has a international branch that is responsible for accreditting medical services from around the world.
Over The Years
Ever since 1979, the hospital has since expanded. In both physical building terms as well as branch expansion. From just one hospital; Samitivej now is a collective board of 7 hospitals. The original building is located within Bangkok's Chinatown area (also known as Yaowarat).
The following is a list of all the current hospitals under the Samitivej group:
- Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital
- Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital
- Samitivej Children’s Hospital
- Samitivej Sriracha Hospital
- Samitivej Thonburi Hospital
- Samitivej Chonburi Hospital
- Samitivej Chinatown Hospital
As you can see, the hospital has expended beyond Bangkok and can be found in the neighboring provinces of Chonburi and Sriracha. As well as having expanded to different areas and sections of outer Bangkok such as Thonburi and Srinakarin.
Keeping to their original goal and vision of bringing the best medical service to locals. To find further details (such as available bed and room space, etc), you can click here and see what the nearest Samitivej hospital to you is like.

Our GoHealth service is partnered with Samitivej, as it is part of our network of hospitals. You may be wondering, why do you need health insurance exactly? Well, luckily we've covered this topic in a couple of previous articles; which you can read here and here.
But in case you're in a hurry, let's cover and go over a few of the more important factors when it comes to health insurance. Let take an excerpt out from one of our previous articles;
"Naturally people think they are invincible, that bad things happen to other people but not necessarily themselves. It’s normal for us to not be able to foresee or understand that it’s possible for us to be sick, and injured. Normally we worry about others, and not ourselves. So with this comes the issue of people not being able to plan out the possibility of needing health insurance. There is usually a time period of around 30 days from when you subscribe to one of the many insurance companies plan to when the plan actually is in place. So, it’s better that you get yourself insured sooner than later."
As you can see, having health insurance is important. It....we take care of you when you are most vulnerable. To let you take that stress off your shoulders once you know you're in good hands with the best doctors, specialists and caretakers. Health insurance isn't just about your physical well being, but also your mental and emotional health also.
And that's what we're here for! To provide you with the best, most effecient and headache-free health insurance you can get here in Thailand. Don't let something like this up to luck, prepare and be insured. At the end of the day, what's more important than your health?
